While the Midwestern states of the US are being hit with freezing temperatures and a severe snow storm, I stepped outside and saw this:
My first crocus of the spring. I love that brilliant flash of yellow that pokes from the ground and announces the winter is over.
"Hooray, spring is coming, time to put away those heavy sweaters and
coats. Time to get ready for planting. Till the garden and make room for the peas. Sharpen up the weeding tool and shovels. Find those gardening gloves. It's almost time!"
I'm almost ready, little crocus....almost.
The spring is sprung,
The grass is riz,
I wonder where them boirdies is?
The boirdies on the wing?
Well, that's absurd,
I've always heard
The wing is on the boird!

I'm not waxing poetic, but I sure love that little drop of sunshine in your yard. It had been so warm here, we had daffodils coming up...but when it snowed, they bid farewell :(.

I woke to something nothing like your crocus.... a little snow and a lot of ice!! But nice to know spring is on it's way!

Hi Karmyn. Happy Valentine's Day!!
Oh I remember the crocus popping up through the snowdrifts in Colorado when I used to live there, and it would so brighten my spirits.

Aww, beautiful! Lucky you.
I won't be seeing anything like that for 2 months yet, or more!

Yessir, looks like spring to me! Now if those folks in upstate NY could just move the 10ft of snow they got the other day, they might see some flowers too.

What a welcome sight! I'm here in dreary, snowy Iowa. Spring will be here soon enough. :)

What a picture. That's totally unfair - it's subzero here again and more snow forecasted again soon. Grrrr. I hope spring gets here by May.

Here in Northern California all the daffodils are coming up and our dogwood is starting to bloom. I have a feeling that we're still in for some snow though. I hope so, we missed winter completely!
