This is a follow-up from my previous Post "What Do You Think?"
To tell the truth - if I had seen a tousled-hair guy giving a passionate kiss to a woman in the parking lot of an upscale inn and then drive off in a different car, I would have assumed they were having an affair; a wild night of sex.
That's what I thought as I drove off in my silver mini-van.
Of course, things aren't always as they appear. In fact, that was me getting a passionate kiss. The tousled-hair man was my husband. However, neither one of us had been in that upscale inn.
The company my husband works for has been in a turmoil for the past year. The company lost a rather huge contract out here in the Pacific Northwest - leaving 6 guys in a state of flux, my husband included. The company insisted they wouldn't lay anyone off and suggested there were be other areas to relocate to in the near future. (England was one that my hubby thought about briefly) However, not wanting to believe, 5 coworkers quit within 6 months, finding new jobs elsewhere for themselves. My husband, somehow, stuck it out, and was the last one standing.
The same week the last co-worker quit, my husband's boss decided to "retire". It was a crazy time. My husband found himself doing triple work (which involved driving all over the states of Oregon and Washington, visiting paper mills and trying to keep a company presence to the customers.)
The new boss transferred to Oregon just before Christmas. My husband spent a week introducing him to all the mills and the political arena of each one. Also discussed were several issues at hand. One of these issues was 5 extra company cars that needed homes. Three of these cars still had at least a year on the lease. Somehow, throughout all this, a company car was left at the airport parking lot. It was the last co-workers car. He had told the old boss the car was there. It was never picked up.
Last week, the new boss found out the company car was still in airport parking....8 weeks later. He drove out and picked up the car and paid the $750 parking lot fee. He drove it to the upscale inn and left it there, asking my husband if he could take charge of the car. It would be cheaper to keep the car at our house than storage.
So, Sunday morning we drove to the upscale inn to pick up that car and bring it home. I got out of my van and inspected the non descript car. Before leaving, my husband grabbed me and gave me a rather passionate kiss. I laughed and then we each hopped into a vehicle to drive home.
As I pulled out of the parking lot I wondered if anyone had noticed. I thought about the scenarios people would assume had happened. I know what my mind would have guessed. As I drove, I figured I had learned a little lesson. Things aren't always as they seem. I need to be more careful in my assumptions. Of course, it's a lot more fun to think the "worst" in a situation instead of the "simple" and "basic".
