Terror Alert

  • Here’s what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey. And like so many addicts about to face cold turkey, our leaders are now committing violent crimes to get what little is left of what we’re hooked on. kurt vonnegut

A: Head down, pressing firmly on your bladder

Q: How do I know if my baby has dropped ?

Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but pressure. Is she right ?

A: Labor causes anything you want to blame it for

Q: What causes baby blues ?
A: Tanned, hard-bodied bimbos

The Skinny on Nothing

Wednesday night I had contractions....the kind to make one wake-up and take notice.  They occurred 12-15 minutes apart.  I didn't sleep until 4am when they suddenly STOPPED.

Thursday morning I was exhausted after 3 hours of sleep but a mid-morning nap helped.  Then, after lunch I started contracting again.  I had very mild contractions all afternoon.  By dinnertime I was very uncomfortable with TONS of pressure.  Oh, the pressure....

Dave and I walked.  A few times the contractions took my breath away.  By evening, I was experiencing pain that required deep slow breaths.

I called Amanda at 9pm..."I think you should come now, but don't rush because I'm sure this is just early labor."

At 10pm I called Amanda again.  "Where are you?"
"We are just getting on the freeway now."
"Turn around and go back home - the contractions have completely STOPPED."

And when I say STOPPED - I mean those damn contractions came to a screeching halt.  Every 6-7 minutes I was breathing and then EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERCH.  Nothing.

All Thursday night as I'd be up to use the bathroom, I'd feel some mild contractions, but nothing that I couldn't sleep through....and sleep I did.

Friday morning I awoke to nothing.  There was no pressure or even a Braxton/Hick contraction.  What is up with THAT?

So - to try and get this labor moving again I have been doing the following since Friday morning:

1. Drinking Raspberry Tea
2. Accupressure on four different points of the body
3. Ate Spicy Indian Curry for dinner (which was soooo yummy)
4. Walking
5. I drank 3/4th of a Fat Tire Beer  to try and completely relax my body and remove all Stress Hormones.
6. Sex

And guess what - NOTHING.  No contractions.  No pressure.  No signs of labor at all.  The baby is happy and moving around.

I refuse to drink Castor Oil.  I just won't go there.  Because I have Ulcerative Colitis (which has been in remission but during this pregnancy has been giving me a tad bit of trouble) there is no reason to add more misery to my colon than there already is.

Yes, I am a bit frustrated.  Maybe this is normal activity for labor but I wouldn't know.  I told Dave yesterday that even though a Pitocin induced labor is brutal to the body, at least I knew what day the baby was coming and that the contractions I experienced resulted in a baby THAT DAY!

This "on again, off again" labor really sucks.

Very True

For once - I took one of these quizzes and I actually believe it....only because I am a Sagittarius!!!

Your True Sign Is Sagittarius
Funny
Confident
Easily Bored
Philosophical
World Traveler
Spontaneous and Wild
Carefree and Irresponsible
Blunt to the Point of Tactless
Now, this baby had an opportunity to be a Taurus - but now will be a Gemini.  Looking up compatibility charts it turns out that Sags and Gems are TOTAL OPPOSITES.  Uh-oh...this could be good or bad.  Good, because opposites attract, but Bad in that I could end up butting heads with this kid big time.  It will be interesting to see how his personality develops!    AND - according to THIS site - It looks like I'm going to be up to my head in busy.  (and I thought Buttercup kept me on my toes!)

Pictures from a Kid's Camera

Jammin' received a camera for his 7th birthday.  A cute little Polaroid Digital which takes pretty dang good pics.  He tore into the house after his baseball game all upset because the camera was flashing "Memory Full".  I downloaded all the photos and got quite a kick out of what he deemed photogenic.  In order to take my mind off all immediate concerns, I thought I'd share some of his pics.....

I haven't quite figured out Typepad's new Compose and Picture features - so when clicked on these pics come out HUGE.

From the top:  Curly Mop, Buttercup, the backyard sun, a Bionicle, Zoe riding in the car, a fishing pole, Dave oblivious while Buttercup runs away, Two leaves in gravel, and a self portrait.

And now some better news....

No Baby Yet.

BDSC_00332008-05-19UT - I did receive the cutest little outfit and booties from Beckie.  I have been debating what the "Take Home Outfit" was to be - and this little Hanna Anderson outfit sold me with the soft cotton and adorable little mice.  Buttercup thought maybe the booties would fit her.  I had a good laugh over that.  I don't think so, little girl.

 THANK YOU BECKIE!

OH - and for all the people who made May 20 and May 21st guesses....Guess what - time to RE-GUESS.  I can't possibly list all the names....but look at the sidebar to see what's left.

Even Worse News.....

Or Why it's Buttercup's fault I haven't gone into labor.

The doctor informed me today that Stress Hormones will actually DELAY the onset of labor.

Stress hormones?  Hmmm...why would I have stress hormones?

Could it be because of  THIS (not for the weak-stomached or easily freaked out by injuries).

Yes - those were 7 stitches in Buttercup's leg.  She was a VERY lucky little girl yesterday.  The cut was bad - went all the way to the sheath of her tendon, but did not actually cut into the tendon.

Jammin' and Buttercup were playing "coyote".  She jumped into the lawn chair and Jammin' tackled her.  The chair fell over and her leg hit one of the Terra Cotta pots on my patio.  Little did I know that the broken Terra Cotta pot was sharp enough to slice through skin.

And lucky for me, Dave was home and outside when the injury happened.  He assessed the damage immediately and we were out of the house in less than 2 minutes.  Having him home helped me stay calm.  I was able to console Jammin', who was crying as hard as Buttercup because he thought it was his fault.  He needed "Mama hugs" and reassurance that she was going to be okay and he was not to blame.  It was a very scary moment for all of us!!

Buttercup was happy being daddy's girl in the ER room with him.  I didn't have to watch my baby girl being sewed up.  I didn't have to watch her be in pain or cry.  I calmly sat in the waiting room with Jammin'.

Afterwards, I told Dave that this made up for all the times he missed out on the shots  during the Pediatrician appointments.  He admitted it was awful having to see her in pain.  But, in Buttercup's eyes - her daddy is a big hero today.

The Good and the Bad

This post has NOTHING to do with pregnancy...but I may work it in, we'll see.

First - The bad....

We will not have a raspberry crop this year.  I am very sad about Dsc_001920080519this turn of events.  Earlier this spring, just as the raspberries started putting on growth and blooms, the weather turned two shades of nasty and froze.  Dave and I watched with baited breath hoping the plants would recover, but there was no hope for them.  There is some green, but not enough to save the fruit.

This means no raspberry jam or liqueur.  Raspberries are my favorite summer fruit.  I refuse to buy a 1/2 pint at the grocery store for $5 too when I've been picking them free from my own yard.

And now the Good news....

Dsc_002920080519 Two years ago one of Dave's "Friends" gave him some marionberry plants.  I wasn't too hip on planting them because they grow like weeds in Western Oregon.  Dave literally dug a hole and threw them in the ground.  We neglected the plants and I even tried to kill them.  Guess what - they are blooming prolific.  They started growing a little bit later in the spring so avoided that late big freeze.

We WILL be having Marionberry jam and liqueur this year!  The plants are a little more prickly and tend to bite, but I like the berries just fine and will be happy eating them this summer.

Oh - AND we planted the garden this weekend.  Well, I should say, Dave planted and IDsc_002520080519 "supervised".  Wait a minute - let me get some credit.  I helped the kids plant the beans and corn, since those seeds were big enough to drop into the row while standing.   Anything that involves bending over is too much for me right now.  (See, I did manage to include pregnancy tummy in this post).

As you can see from the picture, our pea plants are doing well and really starting to grow.  (celery is the other plant growing.  It wintered over from last year).
