And Now - my topic: The Old Rocking Chair.
This rocking chair has been in my family for at least 50 years. It has rocked babies countless times. My mom was rocked in it. I was once lulled by its gentle creaking. My children have slept to its rhythm as I hummed a tune and rubbed their backs.
Life hasn't been easy for the chair. It's leather was once cracked and brittle. A wooden arm has split in age and one side likes to come away from the connection. Currently, a spring has escaped the fabric boundary underneath.
Once, after a repair job, it was returned without its familiar tune. I was relieved when the old "creak, creak" returned to its proper place.
I worry about the old chair and admonish my children when they sit in it. I tell them it is an old chair and needs to be respected. It's not for playing on. It's not to be used as a pirate ship or a jumping spot.
Then, I gently sit on the black leather and rub the arms. I close my eyes and listen to it's song and remember a time when I was little and was rocked to sleep with its rhythm. I am honored to be the one who owns the Old Rocking Chair. I will pass it on in my old age so that my grandchildren can be lulled to sleep by its gentle creaking.

How wonderful to have something with so much history tied to it.

Oh what a great treasure! I hope you have photos of people in that chair. Those could be treasures on day as well.
Great topic for Fun Monday by the way.

I did not play this Fun Monday, but I did visit most of the particpants. I am not sure what would have been my choice of my most precious item, but each blog that I visited reminded me that I too have something similar. I have a rocking chair that my husband bought before our second child, Luke was conceived. My husband and I had a deal that we would have another child if we bought a rocking chair. We raised the first baby without a rocking chair, and he never slept. My husband did find and buy a refinished antique rocker. However, the second child did not care much for rocking; he just went right to sleep. We still have the rocker 33 years later.
Thank you for the Fun Monday. I enjoyed visiting people's memories.

Each of my daughters has her own rocking chair, but none have the history of yours (maybe some day).
My grandparents used to have these metal bouncy lawn chairs that I used to love to sit and rock and bounce in, but I don't know where they are today (probably suffered from bouncitis and ended up where many old bouncy things go when they have lost their bounce and look tacky-- the dump). I loved the chairs though

Oh, I love it. What a great post! I have a chair of my mom's which, while not exactly an heirloom, is exactly like a chair my grandma had. Complete with squeak. It reminds me of them both. I'm keeping it forever.

Dear Karmyn. Sniff sniff. The poor old chair. I feel a bit sad for it, being old and creaky, not the young chair it once was. A bit like my nana.

Beautiful. (The rocking chair and the post.)

Ooo, Karmyn, I can hear it! See it! And, aren't you so fortunate to be its recipient to pass it on to the next generation? It's arms are sooo inviting, it seems to BEG to be rocked.
Or maybe that's me with a nice caffeine jolt, trying to shoot up so I can write MY Monday post, lol. Check me out a bit later, I've got work to do :/.

What a lovely choice, Mum has her Grannies rocking chair which she offered to me unfortunately my house is far too small to hold it.
